Paragliding in Davos Klosters

Flying sites in Davos Klosters: launch sites, landing fields and conditions.

Davos Klosters is an outstanding year-round flying area in eastern Switzerland. Good infrastructure, easy launch and landing options and no airspace restrictions from airports or heliports make it a firm favourite among paraglider pilots. The one exception: flying is prohibited during the World Economic Forum.

Almost since the early days of paragliding, colourful wings have been part of the sky above Davos Klosters on fine days. Acro or cross-country, thermalling or soaring, Hike & Fly or a comfortable cable car ride to the launch: on the mountains around Davos, there is hardly a wish left unfulfilled. The Red Bull X-Alps also stopped here in 2019 and produced unforgettable paragliding moments.

Jakobshorn flying site

The wind-sheltered flying arena at the Davos Jakobshorn is flown all year round. With launch options in almost every direction, the Jakobshorn is the main flying mountain in Davos. The two sections of the Jakobshorn cable car take you comfortably to the summit and from there to the launch sites.

Summit launch site

You launch just below the summit, next to the Angel of Peace by the Davos sculptor Andreas Hofer. The northerly launch towards the cables of the Jakobshorn cable car is reserved for experienced pilots.

Jatzhütte launch site

In winter especially, pilots often launch from the Jatzhütte. From the Jakobshorn summit it takes barely 10 minutes to get there. The launch site (SW-W) right in front of the hut is fairly steep, so you also get away well in winter nil-wind conditions.

The launch site (S) behind the hut is very flat and is really only used when there is at least some head wind, or when the site in front of the hut gets crowded. In nil wind it takes a proper sprint.

If you ever fail to get away at the Jatzhütte, you can walk towards Chalet Güggel and take the Güggel lift back up to the summit.

Brämabüel launch site

An easy launch towards the north. In summer you launch straight into the lift band of the valley wind, which sets in reliably from the direction of Lake Davos. Launching towards the west is possible as well.

Rot-Wiess launch site

A very easy, flat launch site towards the north. Ideal when the wind is too strong higher up in summer, and ideal for top landings too. It is also a frequent target for after-work Hike & Flys, because in summer the valley wind still blows reliably in the evening.

Carjöl winter landing field

The winter landing field is located just behind the Carjöl chairlift, next to the cross-country ski trail. In winter it is groomed for us.

Bolgen summer landing field

The summer landing field is on the large meadow in front of the Bolgen Plaza restaurant.

Davos Parsenn flying site

When only the Davos Parsenn area is open at the start or end of the winter season, this flying site is a popular choice. Its launch sites also lend themselves to an early start into the thermals.

Please note: landing at Lake Davos is only permitted outside the vegetation period.

Schatzalp

Hike & Fly from the Schatzalp: paraglider launching at the Strela pass above Davos

The Schatzalp is the starting point for beautiful Hike & Flys. Thanks to the south-easterly aspect of the mountain flank, thermals form quite early in the morning. From midday onwards, expect sink as the valley wind sets in.

Parsenn

Since the landing field at Lake Davos was closed during the vegetation period, Davos Parsenn can unfortunately no longer be used as a training area in summer.

Klosters flying site

Gotschna North launch site

Only about 150 metres from the top station of the gondola. In summer, a reliable valley wind from the Prättigau usually sets in from midday on fine days, and you can launch straight into the lift band. In winter you launch from a flat, groomed plateau. Top landings are possible for experienced pilots.

Gotschna South launch site

The Gotschna South launch site is a 5 to 10 minute walk from the top station of the Gotschna cable car (heading south, towards Davos). After walking under the cables of the Schwarzseealp chairlift, the launch site is on your left.

Madrisa Schaffürggli launch site

Easy to reach in winter since the comfortable six-seater Schaffürggli chairlift was built. Thanks to the reliable Madrisa thermals, thermal flying is possible here early in the year.

From the Klosters sports centre and outdoor pool, head E/SE to reach the summer landing field. It is marked with a wind sock at the height of the landing field, and a packing area is staked out. Please always use the packing area and the official landing point.
