Flying Sites Davos Klosters

Almost from the very beginning of paragliding, the flying possibilities Almost from the beginning of paragliding Davos Klosters well-known as excellent area to practice the sport.

Davos Klosters is an year-round flying area in the east of Switzerland. Thanks to a good infrastructure, easy take-offs and landings, no airspace restrictions by airports or heli-ports (exception: flight ban during the World Economic Forum) Davos Klosters enjoys great popularity among paragliding pilots.

Acro- or cross-country flights, thermal or soaring, Hike & Fly. On the mountains around Davos, (almost) every flight-wish gets fulfilled.

The Red Bull X-Alps also made a stop here in 2019 and provided unforgettable paragliding moments.

Flight area Jakobshorn

In the wind-protected flying arena on the Jakobshorn in Davos, flying is possible all year round. With its take-off possibilities in almost all directions, the Jakobshorn is the main flying mountain in Davos. The two sections of the Jakobshorn cable car provide easy access to the summit and from there to the launch sites.

Starting point summit

The start is directly below the summit, at the angel of peace by the Davos sculptor Andreas Hofer.

The start in northern direction is reserved for experienced pilots.

Starting point Jatzhütte

Especially in the winter, people often start from the Jatzhütte. From the Jakobshorn summit, the Jatzhütte can be reached in about 10 minutes. The (SW-W) launch site directly in front of the hut is quite steep, so that one can get away well even with zero wind in winter.

The take-off place (S) behind the hut is very flat. In case of zero wind a fast sprint is necessary here.
If you can’t get out at the Jatzhütte you can walk towards Chalet Güggel and take the Güggelbahn back to the summit.

Easy takeoff to the north. In summer you start directly into the upwind band of the reliable valley wind.

Launch Site Rot-Wiess

Very easy, flat take off towards north. Ideal starting point if the wind blows too strong on the top. Also ideal for toplandings. A popular destination also for after-work Hike&Flys, because in summer the valley wind often blows also in the evening.

Schatzalp is the starting point for many beautiful Hike&Flys. Thanks to the southeast orientation of the mountain flank, thermals develop quite early in the morning. From noon on, you have to expect down wind due to the valley wind.

Located only about 150 meters from the mountain station of the Gotschna cable car. In summer blows usually a reliable valley wind from the Prättigau valley. Then you can start directly into the upwind band from here. In winter you can start on a flat plateau. Toplandings are also possible by experienced pilots.
